Last night was Melbourne Spring Fashion Week’s night of nights – the Opening Party.

fortyfive downstairs theatre space was transformed into a landscape that mirrored the fashion direction of the season with installation pieces bringing to life the industrialised space.

Fashion, art, flowers and food came together to create a very modern aesthetic that expressed the visual language of the spring/summer season and featured works from Ryan L Foote, MATERIALBYPRODUCT and Alexi Freeman.

Lord Mayor Robert Doyle officially opened the week and guests were welcomed by the MSFW 2009 Ambassador who looked stunning in an Aurelio Costarella gown.

The VIP guests continued to kick up their heels and enjoy the sumptuous food and beverages well into the night.

GET ready to dust off your gloves and parasols because spring fashion is stepping back in time this year to adopt pretty, feminine styles.

Shoppers had a sneak peek at some of the upcoming classically inspired looks, as Melbourne’s GPO held its Fashion at Altitude launch as part of Melbourne Spring Fashion Week.

Leggy models paraded pieces from Lisa Ho, Akira, Arthur Galan AG, Leona Edmiston and Manning Cartell, set to a retro-inspired tea-party backdrop, while crooner Paris Zachariou who doubled as the model for Arthur Galan gave an entertaining rundown of each design through quirky song.

Flowing dresses and intense colour palettes were clear leaders for spring fashion trends.
